With the NFL season quickly approaching, Fantasy Football drafts are starting to kick off and recently I par-took in one and here's how I did.....
Round 1 Pick 1 - RB - LaDainian Tomlinson
Lucky me, I landed the #1 overall pick so a no brainer here, I took LT. There was only one other consideration for me here, which wasn't much of one at all and that was Brian Westbrook. I didn't consider or want Adrian Peterson at all as I am not 100% sold on him, even though I think he will have an awesome season. You can't go wrong with ol' faithful in LT and I didn't reach for anyone at #1 overall.
Round 2 Pick 28 - RB - Ronnie Brown
Being in a 14 team league I didn't get my 2nd pick until the end of round 2. I went with another RB here as in my league it's 6 points for a RB touchdown and only 4 points for a QB touchdown so I was set on taking a RB. I think I might be reaching a little bit with Brown here coming off that devistating injury last season, but before that Week 7 injury, Brown lead the league in rushing yards. He was also the best RB left on the board in my mind, with Reggie Bush and Willie Parker being the only other 2 considerations, and I wasn't interested in either.
Round 3, Pick 29 - WR - TJ Houshmandzadeh
As mentioned before touchdowns by a WR are worth 6 points, thats huge. So I opted to wait on a good QB and went with the top WR left on the board. I expect Housh to have another big year, and keep his production level high as he continues to get looks in Cincy. Other WR's I could have gone with that were available: Welker, Holt, Plax,Chad Johnson, Calvin Johnson, Boldin, Roy Williams.
Round 4, Pick 56 - QB- Matt Hasselbeck
I take my QB in round 4 as the QB pool was running a little low. I was happy to grab the Hasseler here, I really wanted him, McNabb, or Cutler at this pick and with McNabb going the pick before me, it was an easy choice. I am hoping for another consistant year from Hasselbeck, and don't see why it won't happen.
Round 5, Pick 57 - WR - Chris Chambers
Had to go with another WR as their value is too high to pass them up. I get another #1 WR here in Chambers who I am expecting will have a great year in San Diego as the #1 guy after he has had a chance to learn the system all off-season. He's a solid option for Rivers, when not handing it to LT. Lee Evans, Lav. Coles also went in this round as WR...I'll take my chances on Chambers.
Round 6, Pick 84, - TE - Alge Crumpler
After a run of TE's, I decide to take mine here and go with Crumpler who I am expecting to have a great season in Tennessee. Now, before you rip on me saying that Vince Young can't throw, remember that while Young is scrambling, he's going to go to the short option a lot - enter Crumpler who is a former all-star in this league, and is finally out of a bad situation in Atlanta.
Round 7, Pick 85 - DEF - Chicago
I go with the Bears Defence here. Why not? They will be good as always, and if you read my blog on Urlacher, even though I ripped on him, he's enough reason for me to pick the Bears here. It was the 3rd D taken, behind San Diego and Minnessota.
Round 8, Pick 112 - WR - Jabar Gaffney
I go with the man in NE here to round out my 3 WR's. Gaffney could be a big sleeper this year as the focus will be on Moss and Welker all the time. Plus, with Welker in a small big of injury trouble it only helps Gaffneys value. If Welkers injury becomes anything more then minor, then he will really benefit. It might be a bit of a reach here but at 112 overall, I am not going to fuss.
Round 9, Pick 113 - RB - Chester Taylor
I grab a 3rd RB at this spot. Taylor will be behind AP for the entire year, barring injuries, but he should still get some touches and to my hoping, some goaline carries. I mainly took Taylor as a good fill on on the bye-weeks for my 2 RBs. Again at 113 overall, I'll take it.
Since this was a draft with 210 total players taken I'll just round out the rest of my picks quickly....
Round 10, Pick 140 - K - Josh Brown - Now with the Rams, and indoors.
Round 11, Pick 141 - WR - Darrell Jackson - Could see some touches, good fill in on bye-weeks.
Round 12, Pick 168 - WR - Antwaan Randle El - Stocking up on WRs here, they have big value in this league
Round 13, Pick 169 - RB - Chris Johnson - Rookie RB in Tenn. If LenDale White struggles, this guy will come in big.
Round 14, Pick 196 - QB - Matt Ryan - Rookie QB, just named starter in Atlanta this season, will be sufficient in my bye week,
Round 15, Pick 197 - WR - Arnaz Battle - Let's see what he does in that new Martz offense, could put up decent numbers for me.
Overall I feel I had a great draft and a very well rounded team here with a good mix of sleepers, rookies, and consistantly/great players. It should be a close league as it's very deep, but let's not kid ourselves, I have LT, and after the first 3 weeks go by and he's in game shape, this league is mine to lose.
